Ruta de los Volcanes, Morelos

This architectural and historical gem dates back to 1530 when the king of Spain granted Hernán Cortés the title of Marquis of the Valley of Oaxaca along with a vast territory of land as a reward for overthrowing the Aztec empire. Cortés originally established this hacienda as a sugar mill, becoming New Spain’s most important plantation. Centuries later, this beautiful property withstood both the Mexican revolution and Independence wars, and it was not until 1973 that the hacienda was acquired and restored by Don Mario González Ulloa who transformed it into what it is today: a true historic treasure and a natural oasis where 16th century amate trees still grow.
